So…you are excited to learn more!
How to take the first step?
Feel free to choose what is most comfortable for you.
· You
may want to simply worship with us for several Sundays, trying
both our traditional and contemporary services to find out what
is the best fit for you.
· You
may want to ask a greeter or pastor to arrange an informal
walk-around tour of the church and its facilities, before or
after church, or you can call the church office at 843-8041 to
make arrangements to do this during the week.
· You
may want to stop in sometime during the week when you can have a
longer conversation with one or more of the pastors, to explore
whatever is of interest to you. Just call the church office at
843-8041 to arrange a visit.
You will never be subjected to a “hard sell” at any point.
We are, however, excited about our church, and want you to know
more about us! We want you to know what this community means to
members of the congregation in order to help you decide if our
community of faith is for you.
Here's a little more
information that may help you make your visit more comfortable;
Finding Us
You
can find us in downtown
York
on
the corner of Queen and East Market Streets across from the
Martin Memorial Public Library.
Entrance to the parking areas can be made from either
East
Market St.
or from
East
Philadelphia St
.
See our map for
directions.
Where to Park
Parking is available behind the Church with overflow
parking in the Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff lot on the corner of
King and Queen Streets. The location of our parking lots can also be
found on the parking map.
When you
arrive
As you enter the
sanctuary area, you will see some people waiting to meet you.
These are our Ushers and
Greeters. An usher will give you a bulletin, and assist you with finding a
seat if you like. There is no reserved seating, so you may sit
wherever you wish. Occasionally, we may mark off a few
pews for a special event, but other than that, sit where you
are most comfortable. We won't ask you to wear a visitor's name
tag or stand up, but you will most likely be greeted by a number
of people. We would ask you to sign the Fellowship Pad located in
each pew. It helps us get to know you.
Mobility Impaired people
Mobility impaired people
may enter through the side entrance between the Chapel and the
main building. An elevator is available just inside the door . A
ramp is available for entrance to the Sanctuary. A
wheelchair-accessible bathroom is available.
Handicapped
Parking is available adjacent to the Church entrance.
Finding your way around in the church
Our church consists of several buildings and
getting around can be a bit confusing . There are several
different floors and half floors. So, please, ask anyone for
help; if that person doesn't know, they will find someone who
does.
Sundays at FPC
Services
Traditional Worship Service
is held each Sunday in
the Chapel at 8:00 a.m. and in the Sanctuary at 11:00 a.m.
Contemporary Service
is held at 8:45 a.m. in Christine-Thomas Hall located on our 1st
floor. Our
services last approximately an hour or less.
Our Christian Educational Programs
are a great way to
get to know people and to have personal spiritual growth. We
have a full range of children's, youth, and adult classes. The
adult classes are based on different areas of study; we don't
segregate by age, sex or marital status, making for very
interesting classes. One of FPC's strengths is our
diversity, and you'll see this in the Sunday School. Our Sunday
School Classes begin each Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Children at the Worship Service
Each Sunday we have a Discovery Time for children,
which gives the children a special time of their own to come
down front. If you have children, they are invited to
participate. Some parents come down with their young children.
Following the Discovery Time children grades K-2 may attend
Sermon Time for children in Room 210. Children are retuned
to the Sanctuary prior to the end of the service.
Passing of the Peace
One of the first things that happens each
Sunday is announcements by one of the pastors and the "Passing
of the Peace". If you feel comfortable doing so, please feel
free to leave your seat and greet people. If not, that is fine,
we'll come to you. This is a nice time to meet a few people and
know that you are welcome as one of God's children.
Order
of Service
The order of service is printed in the
bulletin. Some items may show just a page number (e.g., Gloria
Patri p. 579). This should help if you don't
know these creeds and prayers by memory, or know them in a
different way. Also, in the Lord's Prayer, Presbyterians
say "debts" & "debtors" rather than "trespasses" and "those who
trespass against us".
Large Print
Hymnals and Bulletins
We have large print hymnals and
bulletins available at both entrances to the sanctuary
for those who need them. If you desire a
headset to help
you with hearing the service, please let an usher know
and he or she will get one for you. Please return the headsets
to the church office or an usher following the service.
Want to check us out
without actually visiting?
Feel free to call us at (717) 843-8041 and ask for any information you
would need. No obligation, of course.
