We are very blessed to have a wonderful group of gifted adults who want to walk with others in adult education in this journey we call faith. Join us on Sept. 10th as we begin a wonderful year of adult education. Together, with your participation, we can nurture our faith through study, fellowship, and prayer. Here are the classes that will be offered this fall.
All classes are held from 9:30-10:20.
This series of classes will meet from September 10-October 15:
Homebuilder’s class: The Home Builders class will study Modern Parables, an original Bible study curriculum designed for people who like movies. It is the first film-driven study on the parables. The films are uniquely designed to parallel the original parable and thereby drive the viewer back toward the Biblical text. The 12-lesson study uses short dramatic films that explain Jesus’s parables. The films help teach the historical, grammatical, contextual and interpretive elements in the parables. Modern Parables lets people grasp the parables in an immediate, powerful and compelling new way. The class will meet in room 306 (on the second floor of the education building.)
Perspective’s class: WHO IS THAT MAN? The Story of Jesus Christ . Jesus of Nazareth lived an obscure, mostly-small town life and, unlike other leaders of his day, He did little to assure his fame. Yet one thing is certain: no person in all of history has made such an impact, transforming individuals and nations, ideas and culture, forever. No person in history has been as influential, yet it might be said that no one has been as misunderstood. Even Christians often don’t know the basic contours of his life, what he did and said about his identity and his mission.
In the next six weeks, the “Perspectives” class at FPC will dive into these waters, studying the life and times of Jesus the Christ. We will be surprised again by his revolutionary relationships with women, children, and the sick, and, we hope, learn more of how this unlikely first century Rabbi changed the world. This class is taught by Byron Borger and special guests at 9:30 a.m. in room 209
Women’s class: The women’s class will begin the year with a video series called Half-Truths by Adam Hamilton. Maybe you have heard some of these sayings:
- God helps those who help themselves
- Everything happens for a reason
- God won’t give more than you can handle
All of these sayings capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in some important ways. Join John Hamilton in his search for the whole truth by comparing some common Christian sayings with the wisdom found in Scripture. The class will meet in the Parlor and will be facilitated by Carol Rohrbaugh.
