Our Youth Ministry at FPC focuses on three important aspects: faith development, relationship building, and outreach. For a more detailed explanation of our youth ministry vision statement, please click here.
The youth group meets every Sunday evening from September through May. The Junior High meets at 5pm for games and fellowship. At 6pm, the Senior High joins the Junior High for a light meal. Immediately following dinner, we have worship which entails praise music, scripture, testimony, sensory stations, discussion groups, and prayer. At 7pm the Junior High leaves and the Senior High meet from 7pm-8pm for games and fellowship.
Off Campus Activities
There are some Sundays when we have special events, such as Lock-Outs, Ski Roundtop Open Climb, Snow Tubing, Bowling, Laser Tag, and Destination Unknown. All parents must sign a permission slip for these events.
Our youth group is dedicated to reaching out with Christ’s love and compassion to a hurting and broken world. In the past we have served meals at the York Rescue Mission and volunteered at the York Food Bank. We also serve alongside the adults in the congregation during our free neighborhood dinners on Thanksgiving Eve and Palm Sunday. This past year we hosted a Christmas party for a group of disadvantaged junior high youth.
We have terrific youth leaders that strive to model the love of Christ for the youth! All our youth leaders have made a commitment to walk alongside the youth on their journey of faith. Christ may be the foundation of our youth ministry, but they are the bricks and mortar.
The youth sponsor many fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for their mission trips. Every February, the youth put on a production called “The St Valentine’s Feaste” which is a dinner theater that showcases many of our youth’s fine acting abilities. The Feaste has become a beloved tradition not only to our youth but to the church. The youth also sponsor a wreath sale every December and host an auction every other year in the Spring. We also have a job board where members of our congregation can fill out a job request and the youth can complete that job and raise money for their own trip.
Youth Summer Mission and Trips
We have four trips lined up for the summer of 2016: two spiritual growth retreats and two mission trips.
The Great Escape
The Great Escape is for junior high youth. It is a youth conference sponsored by Youth Conference Ministries and it is held in Johnstown, PA from July 25-30.
IMPACT is a youth retreat hosted by Salt N’ Light Ministries. The retreat is held in Alexandria, PA from July 27-30.
Senior High Mission Trip to Puerto Rico
In 2016, we are again teaming up with The Praying Pelican this time to minister to those in Puerto Rico. The trip is scheduled for June 25-July 1.
York Mission Week
York Mission Week is totally unique because it is a week of mission in our own backyard! The youth stay at Asbury United Methodist Church all week and serve our neigbors in York City by doing home construction, volunteering at the library, helping with local kids camps, serving meals at the Salvation army, ministering to those at the York Rescue Mission, and working at local food banks. York Mission Week is hosted by Salt N’ Light Ministries from July 10-15.
